The short version
For more than 25 years, my work has been the same: to operate well, to teach the next generation of surgeons, and to treat every patient the way I would want my own family treated. I’ve had the privilege of doing that across some of India’s finest institutions — and I now bring that experience to patients here in Bangalore.
The journey
I began with an MBBS from Government Medical College, Mysore, and went on to train in surgery at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune — where I earned my MS with the university silver medal. I then completed the M.Ch in Gastrointestinal Surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, in the department of GI Surgery and Liver Transplantation — among the most demanding surgical training in the country.
In 2018, I was awarded the FRCS by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, in recognition of my contribution to the specialty. Over the years I’ve been honoured with travelling fellowships from international surgical societies and have trained further in advanced laparoscopic liver, pancreatic and bariatric surgery in India and abroad.

The teacher
Surgery is passed from hand to hand. For over two decades I’ve taught and mentored postgraduate surgeons — as Professor of Surgery, as an examiner for surgical fellowships, and in leadership roles with national surgical associations (AMASI, IASG). Many residents I trained now lead departments of their own. I also lead an ongoing randomised trial (the FAIR trial) studying a fluorescence-guided technique to make rectal cancer surgery safer.
How I work with patients
Surgery should never be the first answer offered or the last one understood. When you see me, I’ll explain in plain language what’s happening, whether an operation is genuinely needed, and what your choices are — including the option not to operate.
If surgery is the right path, I’ll aim to do it through the smallest possible incisions, so you recover faster and get back to your life sooner. Honest counsel and careful hands: that’s the whole job.
