Areas of Expertise
Why patients and doctors trust Dr Kumar
Experience that counts
Over 4,500 operations in 25 years, and the founding head of gastrointestinal surgery departments at leading institutions. The kind of judgement that only comes from doing the hard cases, again and again.
Academic depth
Trained at AIIMS New Delhi, awarded the FRCS by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, with 56 published papers and award-winning operative videos watched by surgeons worldwide.
A lifetime of service
Dr Kumar spent over two decades as a surgeon in the Armed Forces Medical Services — where discipline, ethics and putting the patient first are not slogans, they’re how you’re trained to work.
Focused on GI cancer — including the most complex HPB surgery
Some of the toughest operations in surgery — the Whipple’s procedure for pancreatic and bile-duct disease, major liver resections, food-pipe and stomach cancer surgery — have traditionally meant large, open incisions. Dr Kumar was among the first surgeons in the Armed Forces Medical Services to perform a totally laparoscopic (keyhole) Whipple’s operation, and has pioneered advanced laparoscopic cancer surgery at hospitals that had never offered it before.
For you, that experience can mean a smaller wound, less pain and a quicker return to normal life — without compromising on the thoroughness the operation demands.

Recognised by peers, published worldwide
Dr Kumar’s surgical techniques have been published as teaching videos in international journals and have won awards at national and global surgical conferences — including the AMASI International Best Video Award (2024) and the Dr C. Palanivelu Gold Medal.
